Welcome to the Village Primary Academy Nursery – the home of the ducklings and the cygnets.
Cygnets – 3/4 year olds
We have a 78 place nursery set within the Early Years setting of school. We can take up to 39 children, from the age of 3, for either Session 1 or Session 2.
Session 1 Monday & Tuesday 8:30am – 3:10pm
Wednesday 8:30 am – 11:00 am
Session 2 Wednesday 13:00pm – 3:10pm
Thursday & Friday 8:30am – 3:10pm
Your child is eligible for 15 hours of free nursery provision.
We can also offer 30 hours free nursery provision for eligible 3 and 4 year olds. To find out if you are eligible please visit:
If you believe you qualify for the 30 hours funding you must apply as soon as possible. The hours must be applied for before the cut-off date provided by Derby City Council. Details of which can be found on the following link:
If you qualify for the 30 hours funding, parents/guardians must re-apply every three months. If you do not reapply or your circumstances change then it may mean that you are no longer entitled to these additional hours (but your child will continue to be eligible for the universal 15 hours)
Ducklings – 2 year olds
We have a 24 place two year old room within the Early Years setting of school. We can take up to 12 qualifying children for either Session 1 or Session 2. Hours are the same as the Nursery.
Give your 2 year old a flying start in life. To find out if you are eligible for a 2 year old funded place please call the Childcare and Families Information Service on 01332 640758 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you receive a letter which says that you may be entitled to funded childcare for your 2 year old, please respond to the letter.
On the days your child is in Nursery all day you can purchase a hot school meal for just £1.00 or provide a healthy packed lunch.
Children in the 2 year old unit will all receive a free hot school meal.
Snack (voluntary contribution) £10 per term.
There is a waiting list for both the nursery and the 2 year old unit. Children’s names can be placed on the waiting list at any time by enquiring at the school office where you will be asked to complete an admission form.
Please note that if you have a child in the nursery it does not mean that older siblings will be offered a place in the school.
Please also note that a place in the nursery does not guarantee a place in the main school. An application will need to be made to join the main school.
We only offer term time provision and are closed during school holidays.
We have been open since the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic, for the children of key workers and others, providing a safe place for children in our provision. We have put lots of safety measures in place to ensure that the children are kept safe and well, for example enhanced cleaning of surfaces and equipment, frequent hand washing and sanitising, keep safe stations (tissues, wipes, sanitiser, aprons, bin etc), we have a one way system in operation and social distancing markers around the school, staggered lunch times and lots of outdoor play in the fresh air.
Please take a look at the photographs below where you will see some examples to illustrate the type of learning and playing your child will be doing each day, for example the construction area and blocks, creative area, home corner, mark making area, maths area, reading corner and sand play.
